Medical Oncology is the medical specialty dedicated to the diagnosis and medical treatment of cancer through chemotherapy, hormone therapy, biological therapy and targeted therapy. It also deals with conditions associated with the disease and complications arising from treatment.
This specialty cares for the cancer patient as a whole. It is responsible for the patient's care from diagnosis, including treatment and follow-up, through to cure or during the patient's terminal phase.
Tests performed to assess the patient's state of health include Bone marrow biopsy, Paracentesis, Lumbar puncture and Thoracentesis.
