Adela Silvestre, new addition to the trip to Gambia

There are times and experiences that have the power to change our life and that can make us reconsider our values and priorities. Some moments which, when they happen, change our life completely and forever.

Adela Silvestre is sure that her life will take a twist this October. This is because, after years of hopes and hard work, she is finally going to fulfill a dream: going to a cooperation trip in Africa.

Juaneda Group’s convoy, which goes to Gambia on the 28th of October, will have the presence of Adela, a nurse specialized in cures, from minor injuries or wounds to more serious ulcers.

Adela feels really enthusiastic towards the trip, looking forward to it and absolutely fearful for facing such a new and unknown situation.

Before leaving, it’s pretty clear in her mind what the main goals of her trip are: to cure as many people as possible, to train her Gambian counterparts both in classrooms and in operating rooms, and to adapt the basics of that training to their knowledge and equipment, and finally, to make the most out of the experience and to grow as a professional and as a person.

It’s important that she lets herself be guided by the colleagues who have already gone through the same situation. That’s why Adela will go there warned and prepared to encounter a bad health care situation. However, she is also willing to discover the hospitality, love and appreciation from a community which stands out for its friendliness and affection.

 “I hope I have the chance to not only teach what I know as a health care professional, but also to give back in the emotional ground; not only help them with cures, but also give them support, backing and the training they need in the clinical ground.”

And, even though her greatest fear is to catch any non-serious disease, which might prevent her from helping her colleagues, we know that Adela is about to live one of the greatest experiences of her life.
