Juaneda Group returns to Gambia.
In October 2021, a team of 15 Juaneda Group healthcare and medical staff embarked on a health, social and paediatric aid adventure in Gambia.
The main objective was to optimise the seven days of the trip and visit as many patients as possible; without losing sight of the fact that quality should always take precedence over quantity.
The success of the expedition was so overwhelming that, after returning and assimilating the whole experience, the entire team set themselves the objective of working to organise a new trip as soon as possible.
After months of work, Pep Ribas, supervisor of the surgical area at Juaneda Miramar, confirms that the next trip to the Gambia is ready to start.
From October 28th until the 4th of November, the Juaneda Group will return to the Gambia. As last year, we have the invaluable help of the NGO Friends of the Gambia to develop our work successfully.
These months of work have allowed us to analyse the previous trip and implement a series of improvements which will make the result even better.
On the medical side, we have two new additions that will give us a leap in quality:
1. Pablo Partida, an anaesthetist from the Juaneda Group, has joined the expedition enabling us to raise the bar of difficulty in the interventions.
2. We have added a respirator that will allow us to monitor patients better.
Regarding staff training in the Gambia, it is vital to follow up with patients once we leave. We are moving from a more improvised teaching approach to a more ambitious training programme. The Juaneda Group is considering training nursing staff in the classroom and the place of work.
In addition, it will be a trip in which patients treated in previous years will be followed up. We will collect the cases we have reported and documented, contact the staff in the Gambia and try to recover these cases and follow them up.
In addition to the new patients, we will encounter on a day-to-day basis.
Regardless of the improvements, the objective will remain the same: to do things well for a few days in which quality and not quantity will prevail.
