The Juaneda Group embarks on an 8-day trip to Gambia
After months of work, occasional difficulties due to the pandemic and a lot of enthusiasm, the Juaneda Group is about to land in Gambia to begin a wonderful 8-day adventure.
This coming October, a group of 15 health professionals, including Dr Jaume Julià, vascular surgeon at Clínica Juaneda, and Pep Ribas, surgery coordinator at Juaneda Miramar, will embark on an adventure with the aim of providing medical, social and paediatric aid.
The project will be carried out in two small operating theatres for minor outpatient surgery, a paediatrics room and a treatment room. The main goal is to optimise the working days as much as possible and to visit as many patients as possible.
It is obvious that the work in Gambia is very different from that in Spain: the conditions, the resources, the staff, etc. However, all the material for these 8 days, from serum to medicines and sutures, is transported in 25 kg suitcases by plane from Spain. It is about working in extreme and unusual conditions, where the expertise and professionalism of the medical professionals can significantly improve the health, quality of life and well-being of many patients, both adults and children.
8 intense, exhausting and complete days. These are wonderful days of personal growth and enrichment, where the stories of each patient will surely touch all team members.
This is also an environmentally sustainable trip, perfectly documented by a professional team to cover everything that happens in Gambia. Environmentally sustainable because we do not want our visit to Gambia to have a negative impact on the country. That is why all the waste generated during the 8 days is brought back in the 25 kg suitcases in which the material was transported days before.
From here we can only wish the best of luck to all the members of the Juaneda group who are embarking on this journey that will undoubtedly change their lives forever.
Juaneda, close to you.
