With Rezüm, a kind of pistol connected to a chamber, we can convert water into steam to necrotize the prostate cells, which the body itself eliminates and solves the problems caused by prostate growth.

Dr. Valentí Tubau, urologist at Juaneda Hospital, explains that the treatment is indicated for patients over 50 years of age with prostate problems and urinary difficulties that can be treated conventionally.

Up till now, the alternative to benign prostate hyperplasia were classical techniques such as open surgery or transurethral resection (TUR) of the prostate, which can result in side effects such as urinary incontinence, bleeding, erectile dysfunction and retrograde ejaculation.

Rezüm appeared five years ago in the United States. This therapy was used for patients who had problems with conventional treatments. Now these patients are spared all the unwanted side effects.

In addition, it is a very fast operation, minimally invasive, virtually painless and does not even require hospitalization. A catheter is used for the first two to three days. After two weeks, the patient begins to notice an improvement in his symptoms. The maximum improvement occurs after two to three months.

This procedure also preserves sexual function and normal ejaculation.
