Advantages of sports nutrition

A varied and balanced diet does not only depend on what you eat, but the times when meals are taken.  What we eat leads without question to a better well-being.

A healthy diet is essential at every stage of life, but when it comes to an athlete, it is essential because it has a direct impact on his recovery and the prevention of possible injuries.

The role of a good sports nutritionist is to put together a diet for each individual athlete.

How does a good diet influence an athlete's life?

Nutrition has a direct impact on two main aspects: improving performance and preventing injuries.

The effects of the diet are not immediately visible. A healthy diet is a path that requires patience, perseverance and trust, because experience confirms that results always occur.

Nutrition requires attention and observation. We can observe very closely which foods are good for our body and which influence us negatively. The result is the importance of a medical history that gradually becomes an individual diagnosis for every athlete.

What does the ideal diet for an athlete look like?

Undoubtedly, and despite the fact that every diet has its specific characteristics, it must be a balanced diet: Vegetables are an important component because of their antioxidants. The main sources of energy are of course carbohydrates and proteins prevent injuries and repair damaged muscle tissue. Even healthy fats are an important component as they have an anti-inflammatory. For example, olive oil, avocado, seeds, nuts, small blue fish and red fruits.

There are different types of food: macrobiotic, vegan, mediterranean, "palaeo" and others. It is necessary to take into account the diet suitable for each person and to try to obtain the essential nutrients from it.

Above all, it is important to eat sustainably. Daily meat consumption, for example, should be avoided. It is also advisable to eat vegetarian food at least twice a week.

Adequate hydration is also an important aspect for athletes and non-athletes. If you wait until your body feels thirsty, it is already too late. We need to drink moderately throughout the day. Athletes are often exposed to high temperatures and moisture. This makes it all the more important to drink enough electrolytes. When we sweat, we lose four very important electrolytes, especially sodium, which we have to replace.

Before any physical activity you should always get enough fluid.

Every person is unique and the diet is very individual depending on their needs.
