Useful Gift Guide for Children and Adolescents
Many pediatricians and child psychologists say that for Christmas and Epiphany, a child should receive a toy, a book, and some clothing. Some professionals include educational games like puzzles or brain teasers.
It's not the same to give a gift to a child as it is to a teenager. It's easier to get it right with the younger ones, but there should be some guidelines for everyone to avoid turning the holidays into a "binge" of presents.
Do you know what to give the little ones? Tips for giving useful gifts to children:
They don't need so many things. After opening three gifts, they don't enjoy it as much. In the end, they don't even remember what they were given.
These are random phrases that parents repeat year after year, but it seems that the situation doesn't change. The children in the house become little kings who must be showered with presents.
The specialists at Juaneda Hospitals recommend the following for gift-giving, but without going overboard.
- A book is always a good option. It promotes reading, helps organize ideas, strengthens knowledge of spelling and forms of expression... And it makes them dream. Imagination also needs gifts, and books, comics, graphic novels... are perfect for it.
- Bicycles, scooters, skates... and any instrument with or without wheels that makes them go outside to get some exercise in the fresh air. Nowadays, there are small balance bikes for the little ones to start exercising their balance on the handlebars, and very complete models for other ages. The same goes for scooters or skates, whether in line or in quads.
- Board games to learn to playas a team and share. And to spend hours of fun with family or friends. With them, children learn to cooperate, to win and lose, and to relate better to others.
- Musical instruments... without resorting to a plastic drum for a child who will only use it to make noise. Introducing children to the world of music, whether through a small piano, a ukulele, or a flute, is always quite an experience. Of course, everything must be adapted to their age.
- Craft or painting sets to exercise and unleash the creativity that all children have inside. They need to be told when, how, and where they can express their inner artist to avoid confusion and have the walls of the house become their canvas.
Ideas for gifting a teenager - and not receiving a grunt in response:
When children reach 13-14-15 years old, things get quite complicated in every sense, and Christmas is no exception. Getting it right with them is more challenging, but it's also quite possible that they will love the gift but won't express anything.
Here are some ideas we propose:
- A book will never cease to be an excellent option, regardless of their age. For a teenager, you will have to find the right theme, but there is a wide range of editorial offerings for them in the market.
- A camera for them to subtly become a bit independent from the mobile phone.
- An experience: a concert by their favorite band or singer, a dinner with their friends, an afternoon of escape room... or even tickets for them to choose the movie they most want to see are good options to escape consumerism and create pleasant moments.
- Elements to decorate their room: teenagers begin to have a very clear idea of how they want their space to be. For this reason, it is important to allow them to decorate it, as much as possible, to their liking.
- A phone case... it's inevitable, it's as much a part of their lives as it is for adults.
