Grupo Juaneda returns from Gambia. Part II
Spectacular.
When it comes to evaluating the experience in The Gambia, and it is hard to find another word, it is an unmistakable sign that this trip gave us much more than it took from us.
After talking to Dr Jaume Julià, vascular surgeon at Clínica Juaneda, about his experiences during the last trip to Gambia, it is our turn to talk to Pep Ribas, operating theatre coordinator at Juaneda Miramar, and hear his impressions.
Emotions come up when he looks back and the word "spectacular" often appears in his speech, which is marked by both emotion and pride. Pep Ribas emphasises with humility and simplicity that joy was the common denominator between the most diverse people. A group of men and women who have returned from The Gambia changed: as better people.
A team of professionals who did not hesitate to be carried away by the joy of a journey based on quality, not quantity. An expedition that not only wanted to provide medical aid, but also to leave a legacy in Gambia that goes beyond the presence of Grupo Juaneda.
Moreover, according to Pep Ribas, such trips are an important experience for all health workers: Assistants, nurses, doctors, etc. Every job done counts. Moreover, as a development worker, one should partly put aside the defined work role one has in Spain. In Gambia or in any other part of the world, it is important that everyone works together. For this reason, it is essential that there is a camaraderie climate where job profiles no longer play the main role and there are simply helping hands that do not ask for anything in return.
8 intense, wonderful and unforgettable days during which it was difficult to find emotional balance, but from which everyone undoubtedly returned with a bigger heart.
Juaneda, very close to you.
