Motherhood in COVID-19 times

Motherhood in COVID-19 times

Childbirth is one of the most awaited and feared moments of pregnancy. The desire to finally see the baby outweighs the fear of the pain caused by the birth pangs.

During these weeks of confinement and isolation, however, many pregnant women fear more the uncertainty of not knowing whether they can have normal childbirth than the pain.

Dr. José Luis Vidal, Coordinator of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the Juaneda Group, wants to reassure all the women who will give birth in the Juaneda hospitals during these weeks.

We would like to make sure that all mothers who are on the final stretch are as calm as possible, because when the time comes to give birth, we will take care of you as planned and in complete normality. However, under the current circumstances, only one accompanying person will be admitted both during the birth and during the hospital stay.

Furthermore, visits during hospitalisation are unfortunately not permitted. In addition, at Juaneda Hospitals, we aim to send you home as soon as possible after the birth, in order to allow you to recover comfortably with your baby.

What happens if the mother is Covid-19 positive?

If the mother had already had a test and it was positive, she can have the baby at our hospital, provided that the overall condition is good.  We have the appropriate regulations and are prepared to take the necessary precautions for you and the health staff.

Another doubt that arises nowadays is about breastfeeding. If at first it seemed that it was not recommended, the latest trends and studies say that breastfeeding is not harmful. Therefore, in the end, it depends on your intentions and consultation with the local paediatric service.

The team at Juaneda Hospitals wishes you calmness and serenity in the last few weeks, allowing you to enjoy one of the most beautiful experiences of your life without worries.

We are ready to welcome you when the time comes.

Juaneda, close to you.
