COVID-19 tests

Exclusive unit for COVID-19 tests

At the Juaneda Miramar Hospital, we have activated an exclusive unit for COVID-19 tests. This area is exclusively dedicated to performing tests related to this virus. It has its own parking lot and direct access from the outside so that no passage through the public areas of the hospital is required. This ensures maximum safety for patients and nursing staff.

All Juaneda centres where we offer COVID-19 tests

Both in this unit and in the laboratory of our hospital, we make all current tests related to COVID-19 available to the general population without the need for an appointment. The opening hours for the unit are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. I n our hospital laboratory we continue to collect samples in our usual hours from Monday to Sunday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Results are delivered in 24 hours.

All those who want to guarantee their own safety and that of their fellow human beings and therefore undergo a COVID-19 test (PCR or serological tests) can also do so in any of the five hospitals of Juaneda Hospitales (Juaneda Clinic, Juaneda Miramar Hospital, Juaneda Hospital Muro, Clinic Juaneda Menorca and Clinic Juaneda Mahón) from Monday to Sunday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

In addition, we offer for groups and with prior request to the telephone number 971 28 00 00, the collection of samples at home.

What is a PCR test?

The PCR (stands for Polymerase Chain Reaction) is a basic laboratory test for diagnosing the coronavirus disease COVID-19. It is currently the reference technique because of its sensitivity and specificity.

For best results, nasopharyngeal swab samples are used, and the technique allows the virus to be detected before symptoms appear.

Several fragments of the genetic material of the virus (its RNA) are localized and amplified using PCR. If virus RNA is detected after the laboratory analysis, the result will be reported as positive and confirm the presence of an active infection.

It is a complex test that requires qualified personnel and special equipment to perform it.

What are serological tests?

Using a blood sample, serological tests can detect the presence of some antibodies that our body produces after contact with the virus. In the serological test we are not looking for the virus itself, but for the antibodies that we may have developed against the virus.

At Juaneda Hospitals, we therefore offer antibody detection tests for people interested in knowing if they have been in contact with the virus or not, whether or not they have presented symptoms. Knowing if one has passed the infection with the virus is a very valuable piece of information in seroprevalence studies that tell us what percentage of the population has passed the disease.

Likewise, Juaneda Hospitales emphasizes the importance of going to a qualified center with professionals and specialists in order to correctly interpret the results obtained. At the same time, remember that the preventive and hygiene measures prescribed by the authorities must be observed at all times.
