There are times when life cannot wait. Occasions when time runs against us and it is necessary to act quickly and swiftly.

A few weeks ago we talked about Juaneda Hospitals' new service, Juaneda Accesible, and how it speeds up processes, tests and interventions with the aim of making our patients' lives easier. But what better way to present the service to you than with a success story.

Nildes Martínez is 80 years old and came to Juaneda Hospitals for help after a year of waiting, pain and discomfort. She arrived with the certainty that something was wrong, but without knowing what was causing her pain.

The Juaneda Accesible team, led by Sol Sanz, got down to work and arranged an initial visit with Dr. Esmeralda Rubio who, after performing an urgent colonoscopy, saw that it was a tumour that had to be removed as soon as possible. In less than a week a visit with the surgeon was arranged and Dr. Mulet successfully operated on Nildes. Today, two months later, he lives without a trace of the tumour and without any pathology.

7 key days to save a life. 7 days in which a medical and care team reassured Nildes, provided her with emotional support and made her feel safe and secure. 7 days to deal with fear, uncertainty and nerves. 7 essential days to regain the will to live.

A few days ago we had the opportunity to see Sol and Nildes together as they told us how much life had changed in two months. We appreciated their complicity and the respect they feel for each other. The personal relationship that has been born between the two of them and this story that they will never forget.

Sol told us that the most beautiful thing about her work is to put herself in her patients' shoes and treat them as she would like to be treated herself. Luz makes empathy, emotional intelligence and good humour her best weapon. She has been the encouragement and accompaniment for Nildes. She has been in charge of her follow-up before, during and after the operation.

Juaneda Accesible would not be possible without such a coordinated, cohesive and wonderful medical and care team that allows us to prioritise what is really important: the life and health of our patients.
