A healthy summer

Summer is the time of heat, holidays, rest and relaxation. During these months, we tend to break with our routine and commit certain excesses, especially when it comes to food and physical activity. Meals in restaurants, lying on the beach or by the pool for hours, increased consumption of alcohol and carbonated drinks - all these have an impact on our health. Here are our tips on how to improve your health this summer and enjoy family and friends in a healthy way. Please note:

-  Hydration: It is important to drink plenty of water. At this time of year we sweat more and therefore need to drink more fluids than usual. Adequate hydration is essential for our health: maintaining body fluid, optimising kidney function, preventing urinary tract infections, weight control, better physical and mental performance, etc.

-  Avoid caloric drinks: It is much better to drink water or natural fruit juices than to opt for sugary, caloric drinks.

-  Eat light food: Now is the perfect time to eat seasonal fruits and vegetables and opt for fresh, healthy dishes.

-  Exercise: Even if laziness catches up with us, it's a good idea to stay active. Despite the heat, this is a good time to introduce exercise routines and maintain them for the rest of the year.

-  Be aware of the risk of heat stroke: avoid sun exposure during the middle hours of the day (12 pm to 4 pm).

-  Use sunscreen: It is important to protect your skin all year round, but it is even more important at this time of year. Use a high sun protection factor, apply the sunscreen half an hour before going out and repeat this measure often.

-  Children: Children under 6 months should not be exposed to the sun. Protect them with T-shirts, hats and sunglasses.
