How warm temperatures can affect sleep quality

The duvet that we have trouble getting out of during the cold months is replaced during the hot summer nights when many have trouble falling asleep.

The degrees begin to rise and, with heat, 25% of society starts to suffer insomnia.

Sleeping well is essential to rest and perform well during the day, but it is also very important to avoid morning headaches or suffer an irritable and depressive mood.

Dr. Rosa Serra, pneumologist and coordinator at the Juaneda Clinic's Sleep Unit, indicates that there are many factors that distance us from pleasant sleep. For example, the high temperatures, the increase of the daylight hours or the inevitable change of summer habits.

However, there are a number of guidelines we can follow to try to overcome this disorder:

1. Air the room naturally during the first hours of the day and also during the hours before bedtime.

2. Try to keep the same schedule all year round.

3. Avoid naps longer than 30 minutes.

4. Do sport preferably in the early hours of the day. Exercise increases body temperature and activates the body.

5. Avoid heavy and late dinners.

6. Dim the light and avoid noise in the room.

7. Use cool bedding such as cotton or linen.

8. Avoid direct air from fans or air conditioning.

If after taking all these measures insomnia remains, it is very important to visit the Sleep Unit and get a diagnosis, and treat sleep disturbances in a personalized way.

At Juaneda Palma we have more than ten years of experience and a success rate of more than 90% in our treatments.
